UNE College of Osteopathic Medicine
Andrew T. Ferrara, son of Holly and Dana McIntire of Phippsburg, and Robert and Melody Ferrara of Richmond, a member of the Class of 2015 at the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine, was awarded a doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine at commencement ceremonies held in Portland May 16.
Ferrara graduated from Morse High School in 2007 and from the University of New England in 2011. He started his medical career in EMS as an EMT at the age of 16 and worked as a paramedic with Phippsburg Fire & Ambulance and Wells EMS.
Ferrara will undergo a three-year residency in Emergency Medicine at the University of Connecticut/
Hartford Hospital in Hartford, Connecticut, starting July 1.
Dartmouth College salutatorian
Danielle Smith, a Bowdoin native, was one of Dartmouth College’s eight salutatorians from the Class of 2015, who was recognized yesterday during Dartmouth’s Commencement ceremony on June 14.
Smith graduates with a double major in German and Russian. Her academic interests include languages and linguistics (particularly Germanic and Slavic languages), translation and interpreting, comparative literature and international relations. Smith’s senior honors thesis is “The Song of the Nightingale: Autobiographical Honesty in Erwin Strittmatter’s Grüner Juni.” She participated in the Russian LSA in St. Petersburg.
Smith was president of the Dartmouth Cycling Club and was active in the Upper Valley Women’s Cycling Initiative. She completed an internship at Alpha Translation Service in Cottbus, Germany, and worked as a research assistant and drill instructor in Dartmouth’s German department. She a member of Phi Beta Kappa and a recipient of Phi Beta Kappa’s Sophomore Prize.
Following graduation, Smith, who is from Bowdoin will attend the Davis School of Russian at Middlebury College’s Summer Language Schools. She will begin a one-year master’s program in comparative literature at Dartmouth in the fall.
Loyola University New Orleans graduate
Loyola University New Orleans recognized 1,011 degrees at its undergraduate and graduate commencement ceremony at the Mercedes Benz Superdome on Saturday, May 9.
Alexandria Nicole Lake, from Bath, was recognized as a candidate for a Bachelor of Science degree from the College of Humanities & Natural Science.
Olin College of Engineering graduate
Alex Spies, of Topsham , received a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Olin College of Engineering at its tenth commencement on May 17.
Colgate University graduate
Bennett Wade, a Peace & Conflict Studies major, from Freeport, is a member of the Colgate University is one of 732 students to graduate from Colgate on May 17, during the university’s 194th commencement.
Bentley University Honors Lists
Bentley University recently announced the names of local residents who were honored for their outstanding academic achievement in the spring 2015 semester. They include:
James Purdy, a sophomore from Freeport, was named to the Dean’s List.
Scott Ross, a senior from Freeport, was named to the Dean’s List.
