SEVERAL AREA soccer players par ticipated in last weekend’s Coastal Summer Challenge, sponsored by Cross Insurance. Fields were used at Bowdoin College, Bath and Topsham, along with games being contested for the first time on Hyde School’s three fields. PIctured here are Coastal players (sitting) Kate Siegel ( Yarmouth), left to right, Alyssa Wyman (Brunswick), Kianna Peacock (Freeport), Madison Storey Smith (Cumberland), Emma Kopp (Topsham) Eliza Libby (Topsham), Molly Obar (Cumberland), Naomi Reischman (Freeport), Mia Klimash (Brunswick), Maggie Libby (Topsham) and Hayley Lewis (Freepor t). Teams that did well included the Seacoast Girls U-12s winning their bracket, with Lanie Lemieux from Topsham on that team, as well as Emma Banks (Brunswick), Lily Davis (Topsham), and Carly Intraversato (Freeport). Among other area teams that did well were the Seacoast U13 and U14 premier boys coached by Andrew Pelletier, which won their respective divisions. Standouts Max Spelke (Topsham) and Everett Horch (Brunswick) were members of the U13 squad, while goaltender Gavin Patterson (Topsham) led the U14s. The Merrymeeting U11 girls went to the finals, while the U14 girls and Central Maine United U17 girls won their brackets. This year’s event hosted close to 220 teams from all six New England States, and even had a U-15 girls team, Treasure Coast United, from Florida. Well over 5,000 people visited the area during the event.
