WOOLWICH
The Sagadahoc County Sheriff ’s Office has charged a Woolwich man with operating under the influence after the man allegedly hit and knocked a bicyclist off his bicycle Saturday afternoon and drove away.
The incident was reported at 4:43 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Mountain Road and Old State Road. Chief Deputy Brett Strout said a 27-year-old man reported that he was riding his bicycle when a black Dodge sedan struck him as it made a turn from Mountain Road onto Old Stage Road and knocked him to the ground. He was able to get the license plate number so Sgt. Greg Siegel went to the residence and located the driver, who Strout said was cooperative, “admitted his errors” and was subsequently arrested.
Arrested was Steven Stimpson, 43, of Woolwich, charged with operating under the influence, leaving the scene of a personal injury accident and failure to report an accident by the quickest means. He was transported to Two Bridges Regional Jail with a cash bail set at $1,000 and has since been released.
Stout said the bicyclist did not require transport to a hospital.
