
He was born on Sept. 13, 1952, in Johnstown, PA, the son John and La Verna Penrod Silevinac.
He graduated from Bishop McCourt High School, Johnstown, PA, in 1970.
Immediately after graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy and often said it was the best job he ever had. During his service he was awarded various medals and achievements, including “Sailor of the Year” and was instrumental in developing the SERE school in Rangeley, Maine.
Besides 22 years in the Navy (retiring in 1992 as a Lt. Commander), he worked for L.L. Bean, and Time Warner Cable before retiring in 2012. Since 2012, he has worked part-time for Bath Bus Service and Bomar Transportation.
In his spare time he pursued his love of golf, model trains, traveling and fishing, (he taught many people how to fish) and spending time with family and friends at his camp in Gardiner, Maine.
Community service was important to Mike and he helped in any capacity needed and loaned his talents to: Boy Scouts, Topsham Recreation Department, and Mt. Ararat Project Graduation spring fashion show, where he showcased his passion for theater.
In 2008, he married Dana Lee Kennerson.
From 1974-2001 he was married to Patricia Rosenbaum and they had four beautiful children: Eric Silevinac and his fiancée Barbara and stepson Luca of Brunswick, Christa Silevinac of Brunswick, Jason Silevinac and his wife Emily and their children Louisa and Dolan of Cumberland, Joshua Silevinac and his wife Lynn and their child Zeta of Bowdoinham.
Surviving besides his wife, children and grandchildren, are sisters Mary Hattaway and Pamela Ocipa and brother John Silevinac, all of Johnstown, PA, stepson Joshua Sabean, USAF, Aviano, Italy, and numerous nieces, nephews, Navy buddies and friends.
Visiting hours will be held Monday, June 22 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Stetson’s Funeral Home, 12 Federal St., Brunswick. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday, June 23 at 2 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Church-All Saints Parish, Pleasant Street, Brunswick, with full military honors. Burial at Maine Veterans’ Cemetery, Augusta, will be held at a later date.
Donations in his memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
