RICHMOND — The Bath Elks U12 softball team captured the recent U12 Softball Ararat Cup Tournament title at Houdlette Field in Richmond.

Beginning on June 5th, Bath opened up with a 13-8 victory over Lisbon. Brook Kulis and Julia Goddard split the pitching duties and struck out seven batters each. The offense then went on a 12-hit attack, highlighted by Abby Carpenter, who went 4-for-4 with a single, two doubles and a home run.

In the semifinal game on Saturday, Bath tore it up once more at the plate, topping Bowdoin, 12-2. Kulis and Goddard shared time on the mound again, while Carpenter, Savanna Burgess, Carissa Creamer, Kulis and Goddard all had two hits at the dish. Kelsey Tibbetts and Hope Barnes contributed with a single each and Maddy Potter also reached base twice.

The championship game took place on Sunday, with Bath facing off against Richmond. The hosts advanced to the championship game by taking victories against Brunswick and Bowdoinham.

However, this time Bath got the better end of the scorecard, taking a 12-6 victory for the title.

The Elks led 6-4 going into the final inning, but exploded for six more runs in the top half of the inning to take a 12-4 lead. The inning included six hits and a walk, with key stolen bases mixed in.

Richmond battled back in the bottom half of the inning, but three consecutive stand-out plays in the field ended Richmond’s rally, highlighted by Burgess’ catch of a line drive with runners on second and third to end the game. Goddard, Creamer and Kulis had three hits each, while Carpenter, Kennedy St. Pierre and Kim St. Pierre also added a hit to the team’s day.

Goddard pitched five innings for Bath, striking out five, while Kulis tossed one inning, striking out two.
