HARPSWELL — Selectmen who met in executive session June 14 to discuss acquiring public access to Cedar Beach are to meet again in executive session today.
Advocates of restoring access to Cedar Beach — revoked in 2011 — attended the June 13 Board of Selectmen meeting to urge a resolution before the end of the month.
Selectmen have been negotiating with Jonathan and Rachel Aspatore, who own a parcel of land that connects Cedar Beach Road to the beach, since late May.
The beach was effectively closed to the public in 2011 by Charles and Sally Abrahamson, owners of a private road that leads to the connecting parcel.
A tentative agreement with the Abrahamsons is in place for a public easement over the private section of Cedar Beach Road, contingent on reaching an accord with the Aspatores.
Town Administrator Kristi Eiane said the purpose of tonight’s meetings is to discuss terms of an easement for the Aspatores’ parcel of land.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
