The Sagadahoc County Sheriff ’s Department is investigating $10,000 to $15,000 in vandalism inflicted on a vacant Wildes Road home.

Chief Deputy Brett Strout said the owner was doing maintenance work and arrived Friday to find the damage. The vandalism was reported to the sheriff ’s department at around 8:30 a.m. that morning.

Sometime during the prior week, someone went through the house, smashed out all the windows and Sheetrock on the walls, poured paint on the floor, and caused other damage, Strout said. Nothing was taken.

The sheriff ’s department is also looking into an attempted theft from a home on Wood School House Road in Bowdoin reported shortly before 8 a.m. on Saturday.

Strout said the property owner of an uninhabited home who drives by the property daily noticed that morning as he drove by some items blocking the entryway and stopped and got out of his vehicle. He noticed a coil of wire and a battery in the roadway and realized someone had been in the house, Strout said, and set stuff aside.

The incident took place sometime overnight or before 7:50 a.m. Saturday.

As of Monday, there were no suspects.

Minutes later on Saturday, at 8:19 a.m., the sheriff ’s department was called to Litchfield Road in Bowdoin and took report of an outboard motor and scrap metal taken overnight from that property.
