BOWDOIN — Maine State Police Trooper James Leonard said the Topsham woman injured in a car crash on Route 201 in Bowdoin this morning sustained internal injuries, and while serious the injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Leonard said somehow the driver, Amelia Thibault, 25, of Topsham, got out before the car caught fire. Leonard was not sure if she was able to free herself or if a passerby pulled her from the vehicle.
Thibault was flown to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston by a LifeFlight helicopter, which landed nearby at Bowdoin Central School, and underwent surgery. Thibault suffered a broken arm, minor head injuries and some serious but non-life-threatening injuries, Leonard said. Because it looked like she didn’t hit the brakes, it may be possible Thibault, who left work very early Friday morning, fell asleep.
