ARROWSIC — Stephen Richard Quandt, son of Midge and Richard Quandt of Princeton, N.J., and Thomas Brian Heyer, son of Dawn and the late Robert Heyer of Holland, Mich., were married on Saturday, May 18, 2013, in Arrowsic, Maine at the home of Mr. Quandt’s cousin Walter Briggs, who became a Universal Life Church minister for the event and who officiated.

Two close friends of the couple, Sandra Raupp and Sandra Luckow, along with Walter and Wendy Briggs, their four children Duncan, Marnie, Charlotte, and Henry attended the ceremony, which was not announced in advance. Music was provided by Duncan Briggs, who played Wagner’s Bridal Chorus from Lohengrin on the ukulele. The Arrowsic town clerk Jennifer Hall told the couple that it was Arrowsic’s first same-sex marriage.

The couple met in 1992 when they were both working on a theatrical production of “Great Expectations” at the Papermill Playhouse in Millburn, N.J. Mr. Quandt is a freelance theatrical lighting designer and a responding consultant for the ASPCA’s Field Investigation and Response Team. Mr. Heyer is a freelance costume designer and fine artist.
