PORTLAND — The Bowie Baysox (31-25) completed a threegame Eastern League sweep of the Portland Sea Dogs (23-34) with a 5-0 shutout on Sunday afternoon in front of a sellout crowd at Hadlock Field.
A night after former Sea Dog Joe Gunkel worked six scoreless innings against Portland, former 2013 Sea Dog Terry Doyle went the full nine in shutting out the Sea Dogs. Doyle allowed seven hits and issued no walks while striking out seven. He threw 111 pitches, 76 for strikes. The Sea Dogs were held scoreless by Bowie for 26 consecutive innings to close out the series.
Bowie took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a solo home run by Trey Mancini, his first of the season. It was the first home run allowed by Sea Dogs’ starter William Cuevas this season.
After an off day today, the Sea Dogs visit Richmond for a three-game series beginning on Tuesday at 6:35 p.m.
