The bell was created from an oxygen tank discarded by climbers on Mt. Everest in Nepal.
Jeff Clapp, the owner of Brunswickbased Bells from Everest, made the donation in recognition of his mother’s more than 25 years of service as a nurse at Mid Coast Hospital.
Dorothy Clapp died in 2003.
The Bell from Everest is suspended from a granite post adjacent to the hospital’s Healing Garden. Those who knew Dorothy Clapp shared stories and memories of her tenure as a hospital employee.
Ornaments made from the metal lathe shavings produced in the creation of the bells are for sale in the Mid Coast Hospital Gift Shop. A portion of every sale is donated to the Mid Coast Hospital Auxiliary Nursing Scholarship Fund.
