DURHAM — Maxine Carolyn (Ward) Herling, 90, of Ferry Road, died peacefully on Tuesday morning, May 26, 2015. She was born in Durham on Nov. 19, 1924, where she was a lifelong resident, the daughter of the late Harold and Gertrude (Engleman) Ward.

On Nov. 23, 1943, she married Harold H. Herling, who passed away in 1998.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Victoria and Stephen Harris of Durham, her son and daughter in-law, Quincy and Sondra Herling of Durham; her grandchildren, Eliza Norton and husband James, Julia Harris and fiancé Gary Howitt, Delia Perkins and husband Nathan, Abigail Herling, Abraham Herling and fiancée Alyssa Kenney; six great-grandchildren, Ava, Mason, Hadley, Henry, Vivian and Gavin, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her grandson, William Harris in 2011.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, May 31 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. A memorial service will be held at the First Congregational Church of Durham, 773 Royalsborough Road, on Tuesday, June 2 at 3 p.m. Burial will take place at a later date at Union Cemetery in Auburn.
