WISCASSET
The Northeast Mini Stock Tour made its one and only appearance this year in Maine at the Wiscasset Speedway last Saturday night.
Under the lights, 31 cars raced in an action-packed 50- lap feature.
Starting the lineup were heat winners Mike Mason, Matt Sonnhalter and Shawn Swallow. Leader changes at the start were swift, and Glen Thomas wove through traffic to slip into second.
Toby Wells of Dublin, N.H., won the race, with Emerson Cayer, who holds first place in NEMST points standings, in second and Shawn Kimball third.
In the Super Stock 25-lap feature, Adam Chadbourne of Woolwich was given a battle by Wiscasset’s Bobby Mesimer, who briefly took the lead. However, Chadbourne prevailed and secured his third first-place finish. Mesimer took second, with Josh Bailey of Wiscasset third.
In a 15-lap show, the Thunder 4’s took the track. Jamie Heath of Waterford took the pole position, and there was a neck-and-neck battle between him and Ryan Ripley, who was black flagged due to fuel spilling out of his car. Heath eventually took a commanding lead and placed first.
Securing her third topthree finish at Wiscasset was Leandra Martin of Richmond in second, with Kevin Sherman of Wiscasset third.
Inthe 30-lap Prostocks. Chris Thorne of Sidney drove his way to first. Drake was second and Nick Jenkins third.
Excitement filled the stands during the 20-lap Strictly Street race. Tasha Dyer of Arrowsic led the race from her starting pole position. With Guy Childs making a determined effort to gain the lead, the pair engaged in a 20- lap scuffle to the finish.
Coming out of turn three on lap 20, Dyer made one last effort to pass, but spun down the front stretch, crossing the finish line sideways. Childs took first, making this his third top-three finish.
Dyer said, “The thing about this was that it was the most fun I ever had racing. We both had good cars. We bumped on every lap, and I spun out at the end, but it was fun.”
Gerry Freve took third.
Four cautions in the N.E. 4- Cylinder Prostocks made for a lot of racing action on the track. However, Sherman held on to first from his starting position at the pole. Placing second was Tim Jeski, while third went to Dave Patten.
The 35-lap Late Model Sportsman race had four cautions. On the fourth restart, TJ Watson of Cundy’s Harbor was in first, Farrington second, and Tyler Robbins third. Lap 24 saw Watson falter on the front stretch, and Farrington took the lead to win.
Watson placed second, with Robbins third and Bill Pinkham of Wiscasset fourth,.
Wiscasset Speedway resumes racing action this upcoming Saturday night with its group two lineup of divisions: Strictly Street, Mini Trucks, Outlaw Mini, Late Model Sportsman, and the flex race of the week will be a 100- lap Enduro feature for six and eight cylinder cars.
