SKOWHEGAN (AP) — Authorities say the former chief of the Skowhegan Fire Department will admit to felony theft charges under a plea agreement reached between him and New Hampshire state prosecutors.
The Morning Sentinel reports the plea bargain with Richard Fowler Jr. means that prosecutors will request he serves prison time in connection to a theft occurring in Farmington, New Hampshire.
A Strafford County grand jury indicted Fowler on charges that he stole money from a town government entity between November 2009 and June 2014. Fowler was previously Farmington’s fire chief.
Prosecutor Thomas Velardi has said the theft indictment alleged that Fowler stole more than $1,500, but the true figure was “substantially more.”
Velardi wasn’t available for comment or to clarify Fowler’s plea agreement Monday.
Fowler’s attorney didn’t return messages seeking comment.
