WINDSOR

Regional School Unit 12 has chosen Howard Tuttle, the current director of curriculum for RSU 11 in Gardiner, as its new superintendent.

Hilary Holm, chairwoman of the RSU 12 Board of Directors, made the announcement during Thursday night’s board meeting at Windsor Elementary School.

Tuttle, who succeeds interim Superintendent Alan Hawkins, is expected to assume his new position in June. The agreement, made Wednesday night in executive session, is contingent on Tuttle signing a contract, Holm said.

“Contingent on a contract, Howard has accepted the position and we’re very excit- ed about that,” Holm said. “He’s very excited about that, too. He spent the day touring the schools.”

Tuttle will come on board at a time that the eight-town school unit is in a state of flux. Palermo, Westport Island and Wiscasset all have expressed a desire to withdraw from RSU 12.

He was not present during the announcement.

Tuttle’s contract is to be negotiated by a subcommittee,

Holm said.

Hawkins, the former superintendent of the Wiscasset School Department, agreed to replace Greg Potter for a year. He retired in 2010 as superintendent of Cape Elizabeth School Department.
