Region Ten Technical High School has collaborated with Southern Maine Community College on a three-credit hour course in composites.
The course, open for qualified seniors, takes place on SMCC’s Brunswick Landing campus.
“Ten of our students have enrolled in the course,” said Region Ten Director Barry Lohnes. “The program is precedent setting — we have enrolled seniors in a highly rigorous college course, funded entirely by the generosity of the private sector.”
Lohnes referred to grants from the Perloff Family Foundation, the Maine Composites Alliance and the Maine Space Grant Consortium, along with in-kind gifts from Region Ten and Southern Maine Community College.
He also praised the SMCC Composites instructors Andrew Schoenberg and Robert Turcotte. The instruction will facilitate Region Ten entry in the annual Windblade Challenge at the University of Maine Orono in May.
Region Ten, located at 68 Church Road in Brunswick, enrolls nearly 300 students from Brunswick, MSAD75 and RSU5, along with smaller numbers from Lisbon and Boothbay; 14 technical programs are offered.
