WISCASSET — Tyler Bailey’s squeeze bunt with the bases loaded lifted the Wiscasset High School baseball team to a season-opening 2-1 eight inning Mountain Valley Conference win over Boothbay on Friday.
Tied 1-1, Grant Hefler singled, stole second and moved to third on a bunt single by Brycson Grover. After a walk to Daren Wood loaded the bases, Bailey’s bunt allowed Hefler to score the winning run.
Bailey was superb on the mound. He allowed no hits through seven innings with 16 strikeouts and five walks. Tyler Flavin relieved in the eighth after a lead-off walk and picked up the win with two strikeouts as Boothbay (0-1) failed to register a hit.
Wiscasset grabbed a 1-0 lead in the fifth as Conlon Ranta scored on a passed ball.
The Seahawks tied the game in the sixth on a pair of Wolverine throwing errors.
Chase Reed doubled for Wiscasset, which hosts rival Lisbon today at 4:30 p.m.
LINC. ACADEMY 6
MORSE 1
Devin Scherer tossed a nohitter as the visiting Eagles downed the Shipbuilders in Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class B action on Friday.
Scherer struck out seven, and received support from Nick Morton and Travis Creamer, who both went 2- for-4 at the plate for Lincoln Academy (1-0).
Morse, 0-1 and slated to visit Belfast today (4 p.m.), claimed a 1-0 lead in the third. Dakota Jacobs walked. Pinch runner Tucker Banger stole two bases and scored on a groundball by Trevor Drouin.
The Eagles answered in the fourth on an RBI single by Creamer, and Lincoln jumped into the lead in the sixth as Wally Morris doubled to score Sawyer Pinkham. The visitors tacked on four more runs in the seventh to put the game away.
Jacob Cressey pitched well for Morse, going six innings with two strikeouts, and allowed just one earned run.
Softball
In KVAC Class B seasonopening play at Bath on Friday, Lincoln Academy scored two runs in the sixth and one in the seventh for a 5-3 win over Morse.
Marrissa Parks pitched for Morse, 0-1 and slated to visit Belfast today at 4 p.m. She struck out five, walked eight and permitted seven hits.
At the plate, Parks singled twice, Alizhay Gagnon tripled, and Olivia Potter and Mikayla Rose each singled in the loss.
Morgan Achorn paced the Eagles (1-0) with three singles. Christine Hilton singled twice, and Abby Farrin earned the mound win with 10 strikeouts, one walk and five hits.

Kacie Luce settled things down on the mound for the Wolverines, who opened MVC play with a victory over Boothbay on Friday.
Trailing 11-7 through two innings, Luce relieved starting pitcher Tylan Onorato and went the rest of the way. She allowed five runs and struck out five.
Wiscasset, 1-0 and slated to host Lisbon today at 4:30 p.m., pounded out 18 hits. Kayla Gordon was 4-for-5 with three triples and four RBIs, Charlene Reed singled twice, drove in two runs and walked three times, and Onorato picked up four RBIs on two singles. Stephanie Jones added three singles and three RBIs. She also stole four bases. Luce and Grace Webber chipped in a pair of singles each.
