BRUNSWICK

A local electrical service contractor is among the newest tenants expected to move into commercial space at Brunswick Landing.

ABL Electric LLC, which currently has offices in Portland and Topsham, has obtained a preliminary agreement to relocate its headquarters to the former “SeaBee” compound, in Building 632, on Allagash Drive.

Owner Brian LaFrance and members of the Midcoast Regional Redevelopment Authority approved general terms of a lease during the Property Committee’s meeting Thursday.

The official lease remains to be finalized, MRRA Executive Director Steve Levesque said, but LaFrance is ready to start moving equipment as soon as the ink dries.

“We’re growing, maybe not as fast as I’d like, but we’re too big right now to keep working out of my Topsham house,” LaFrance said.

At 3,200 square feet, Building 632 is among the newer structures in the former U.S. Navy Construction Battalion compound.

It will require slight modification, which LaFrance plans to do himself.

“Things are looking up, and we’d really like to get in there,” he said. “We do a lot of home stand-by generators, and we’ll store a bunch at a time right there in the building. It’s perfect for what we need.”

Committee members Thursday also approved recommendations of property transfers to the Maine Army National Guard.

Under the proposal, MRRA would retain several of the properties due to be transferred by the U.S. Navy and pass others directly to the Army National Guard for its use.

The first round of demolition bids also are to be issued in May.

Levesque did not provide specifics, but suggested numerous older buildings would be knocked down because they either structurally or environmentally are unfit for reuse, or would be prohibitively expensive to renovate.
