Predictions of a snowstorm for Feb. 15 — projections that never came to fruition — proved to be a blessing in disguise for the 22nd annual World’s Greatest Sleigh Ride.

The annual fund raiser — the combined effort of Pejepscot Sno-Chiefs snowmobile club, Lisbon Falls and the Maine Farmers Draft Horse Club, along with Friends of the Sleigh Ride volunteers — was postponed to last month in Lisbon Falls, and brought in $ 3,100 for Pine Tree Camp.

Riders enjoyed a long sleigh ride, pulled by beautifully appointed teams, through plowed fields and woods, finishing at the snack shack for some of the Curtis family’s famous, hot homemade donuts, stews, hot drinks and goodies. Kids took advantage of the giant “Bard Mountain” to play on, a big pile of snow perfect for sliding down.

Pejepscot Sno-Chiefs was honored this year by Pine Tree Camp with a plaque commemorating being third highest fundraiser in 2014. In 22 years, the club has raised nearly $60,000 for the camp, which helps future campers attend a completely handicappedaccessible facility, even including a tree house.
