PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A former Rhode Island resident who pleaded guilty to several counts of child molestation has been sentenced to prison.
Superior Court Justice Netti C. Vogel in Providence sentenced 35-year-old David Girard of Dixfield, Maine, on Wednesday to 60 years in prison with 27 years to serve and the remainder suspended for probation.
Girard pleaded guilty in November to three counts of first-degree child molestation and three counts of second degree child molestation.
Officials in state Attorney General Peter Kilmartin’s office say Girard molested three girls between the ages of 6 and 11 on multiple occasions between 2005 and 2012.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
