TOPSHAM
An Augusta-based public policy group will discuss Maine’s budget woes and explore possible solutions in a public presentation Wednesday, Feb. 27.
“Maine’s Avoidable Budget Crisis” will take place at the Topsham municipal building from 6 to 7 p.m. Garret Martin, executive director of the Maine Center for Economic Policy will discuss the center’s recent report that blames the state’s budget woes largely on actions taken by Gov. Paul LePage and legislators in 2011 and 2012.
Martin will outline strategies to rebuild Maine’s outdated tax base to meet the needs of a 21st century economy.
“The middle class and those working to get there have already been hit hard by the recession,” he said in a news release. “Why make matters worse by cutting critical public investments when they are needed most?”
Wednesday’s forum, sponsored by the Sagadahoc County Democratic Committee, is free and open to the public.
