TOPSHAM

After 22 seasons pacing along the sidelines, Sam Chard announced he will no longer be coaching the Mt. Ararat High School girls soccer team.

Chard posted on Facebook and on the Mt. Ararat High School website, “It is with a heavy heart that I will no longer be coaching at Mt. Ararat effective immediately.

I was offered a promotion at L.L. Bean, a long time career goal of mine, but it’s on second shift. While I was looking forward to many more seasons at Mt. Ararat, this career opportunity came about abruptly but with open arms. I will surely miss coaching as it’s been a part of my life for 27 years with 22 at Mt. Ararat. I am grateful for being able to coach you all but am looking forward to a new chapter in my life. This departure is bittersweet, but it’s the right thing to do as I have achieved my career goal as a senior supervisor, overlooking the Maine Hunting Shoe Department and building operations on second shift. I will visit from time to time and wish you success.”

Mt. Ararat will announce Chard’s replacement at a later date.
