RICHMOND — Trailing unbeaten and Class C Waynflete 2-0 just 10 minutes in on Saturday, the Richmond High School boys soccer team might have decided to pack it in.
Not these Bobcats.
Richmond reeled off eight unanswered goals for a stunning 8-2 victory over the Flyers (9-1-1) to improve to 13-0, with a visit to Class C Sacopee Valley slated for Tuesday at 5 p.m.
“This was a huge game for us and is the kind of team you expect to see in the playoffs,” said Richmond coach Joe Scribellito. “A game like this definitely gives us a lot of confidence.”
Waynflete received a goal each from Jack Cutler and Mohammed Suja for a 2-0 edge.
But, Eddie Stewart converted a penalty kick and tied the game off an assist from Randy Moody.
The Flyers were forced to play a man down after Stewart’s second goal after an ejection, and Richmond took full advantage of the extra man and the wind.
“Normally, we play into the wind in the second half, but today we had the wind at our backs and took advantage,” said Scribellito.
Cameron Emmons scored two of the next three goals for Richmond, with Stewart completing his hat trick for a 5-2 Bobcats lead. Goals by Curtis Anderson, Moody and Xavier Trask (PK) completed the scoring.
Nate Tribbett dished out two assists for Richmond, while goaltender Dustin Sullivan had seven saves.
Waynflete netminder Tommy Silk had eight stops.
