SMYRNA (AP) — Authorities say a man was shot and killed during an armed confrontation with a state trooper and a deputy sheriff.

State police spokesman Steve McCausland says the shooting happened just before 8 p.m. Tuesday in a home on Smyrna Center Road. No other details were disclosed. The names of those involved are to be released this morning.

The trooper and the deputy, from the Aroostook County Sheriff ’s Office, were not injured. McCausland says they’ve been placed on administrative leave with pay, which is standard following a policeinvolved shooting.
