BRUNSWICK — The Brunswick High School girls soccer team stormed back from a 3-0 deficit for a comefrom behind 4-3 Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference victory over Hampden Academy on a wet Thursday afternoon.

“We made it 3-1 just before halftime, then took control and scored the winning goal with 15 minutes left,” said Brunswick coach Martyn Davison, whose team is 11-0 and visits rival Mt. Ararat on Tuesday at 6 p.m. “A great game by both teams in the wet conditions. I thought we were tremendous going forward, but a tough day for defending for both teams. I thought Rachel Moroney, Anna Cowan, Kassidy Scarponi and Caley Nicholson were immense.”

Moroney and Cowan had two goals each in the Dragons comeback, while Paige Tetu dished out two assists, with one helper going to Scarponi and Moroney.

In goal, Brunswick’s Haley Murano had six saves, while Hampden Academy’s (8-2) Sami Bowler turned aside 12 shots.

The visiting Greyhounds scored the winning goal with 17:54 remaining in regulation for a Mountain Valley Conference win at Madison.

The victory vaulted Lisbon (10-0-1) into the top position in the Western Maine Class C Heal Point Standings after previously unbeaten Monmouth (10-1) fell to Spruce Mountain on Thursday 2-1. The Mustangs are currently in second place in Western C.

“This was a very good win, as Madison has gotten better,” said Lisbon coach Jake Gentle, whose Greyhounds host Monmouth on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. “This was a tough, wet game.”

Kayla Angelico scored the game-winner. Off a corner kick, Madison attempted to clear the ball, but Olivia Bulgin intercepted and fed Angelico for the goal.

Courtney Martel had four stops in the victory, while Madison (5-7) netminder Savanna Smith had six saves.

Field hockey

Nicole Hickey had nine stops, and Kallie Hutchinson scored the lone goal as the host Yarmouth Clippers took a key 1-0 Western Maine Conference victory over 5-7-1 Freeport.

Hutchinson converted a penalty corner off an assist from Katie Overhaug.

Freeport, slated to host Traip Academy in the its regular season finale, received nine saves from goaltender Rebecca Harrison.

Undefeated Skowhegan (13- 0) outshot the host Dragons (2-8-3) 23-0 in a KVAC victory.

Sarah Finnemore had three goals and two assists to lead the Indians, while Makaela Michonski, Brooke Michonski, Rylie Blanchet and Zoey Gleason added one goal each.

Sydney Escoe turned aside 16 shots in the loss.
