BRUNSWICK — Senior men’s basketball player John Swords has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District Men’s Basketball Team.

A Government and Legal Studies major, Swords owns a 3.79 GPA and is one-of-six recipients from District I (New England). He is now eligible for the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.

In addition to his work in the classroom, Swords has been a standout on the court for the Polar Bears. The 7-foot center currently averages 11.9 points and 9.7 rebounds per game while also blocking 1.9 shots per contest and shooting at a 68.2 percent from the field.
