BRUNSWICK

Get ready for some road closures — construction on Union Street is starting next week.

Crooker Construction will start work on the utility improvements along the roadway Monday, which will be closed to all traffic between Mill and Lincoln streets for a couple of weeks. Pavement will be pulverized and excavation will begin on replacing the existing storm drain piping and structures that run along the east side of Union Street, starting at Mill Street.

Mill Street will remain open during the work.

Union Street will be closed to traffic during work hours (generally 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday), and will reopen to limited local access outside of work hours. No parking in the closed area will be allowed at any time during the estimated two-week work period.

Gilman Avenue will also be closed to thru traffic when the work is taking place — reopening when work ends daily — and only local traffic will be permitted to enter and exit Gilman from Maine Street.

During the initial phase of work, Lincoln Street will remain open, but will only be accessible from the south side of Union Street.

Union Street businesses will remain open during construction, and customers are advised to park on side streets and use the public sidewalks to get to each business.
