WATERVILLE — The Brunswick High School boys ice hockey team played over the weekend in the Waterville Christmas Tournament at Colby College’s Alfond Arena.

In the opener on Friday against Old Town/Orono, the Dragons posted a 5-4 win in a shootout.

Down 1-0 after a period, Brunswick received a goal each from Jared Parent (assisted by Jacob McGowan and TJ Sullivan) and McGowan (Sullivan, Matthew Deveaux) for a 2-1 lead heading to the third.

Jacob Towle (Michael Deveaux) and Sullivan (Matthew Deveaux) scored early in the third for a 4-1 lead, but Old Town/Orono battled back with three unanswered goals to send the contest to overtime.

After neither team scored in the extra session, Brunswick outscored Old Town/Orono 2-1 in a shootout for the win. McGowan and Parent put the puck past goaltender John Penneway, who had 21 saves. Brunswick netminder Devin Allard had 24 stops.

On Saturday against host Waterville, the Dragons led by two goals on three occasions, but the Purple Panthers battled back each time before pulling out a 7-5 victory.

Justin Wentworth scored two third-period goals to break a 5-5 tie to finish with three goals, while Jackson Aldrich dished out five assists in the win.

McGowan picked up one goal and three helpers, while Sullivan had two goals, and Nate Granholm and Parent one goal and an assist each.

The Dragons are slated to visit Cony/Monmouth on Tuesday at 1:40 p.m. in Hallowell.
