Rachel Kennedy scored a pair of goals to lead the Polar Bears to 3-1 Saturday NESCAC win over Connecticut College and force a series split.

The 10th-ranked Polar Bears bounced back from Friday’s loss and improved to 7-2-2 (3-1 NESCAC), while handing the Camels 8-2-3 (3- 1-2 NESCAC) their second loss of the season.

The teams traded power play opportunities in the opening half of the first period, but it was not until two seconds remained in the first frame that either team got on the board. After winning a face-off in Camel territory on the right side, the puck got tossed down behind the Camels’ goal where Chelsea MacNeil slipped it out to Kennedy in front of the net. Kennedy quickly one-timed the sliding puck from the near side before Kelsie Fralick was able to adjust for a 1-0 Polar Bears lead.

Carrying their momentum, Bowdoin doubled its lead 2:51 into the second frame. Flying down the left wing, Julie Dachille skated in on Fralick, drawing the goalie towards the left post. She slotted a low angle shot through the five-hole towards the inside of the right pipe for a 2-0 lead.

The Polar Bears continued to pressure Connecticut’s defense and tallied a third goal 7:40 into play off a breakaway by Kennedy.

The Camels scored on a breakaway from Ashley Anctil, but failed to get closer as Lan Crofton turned aside 24 shots in the win. Fralick and Katherine Chester combined on 23 saves for Conn. College.

The Camels took the lead off Kohl’s second goal midway through the final period. Speeding down the right wing, Kohl wristed a shot top right shelf over the glove of Crofton to give her team the one goal advantage.

With 2:15 remaining the Polar Bears pulled their goalie to put an extra skater on the ice but were unable to even the score.

Bowdoin and Connecticut matched each other in shots on goal with 27. Crofton stopped 25 shots for Bowdoin as Fralick made 26 saves for the Camels.
