West Bath always displays a very high voting percentage for general elections and the election scheduled for Jan. 13 is just as important as any general election. The voters are being asked to state their preference for the education of all school age children in the town. After concerned residents and two committees expended many hours of research over the last 15-plus months, it is now being stated that our children would be better served if the town withdraws from RSU1. Yes, the students would be able to attend a middle or high school that served their needs better than the only choice they now have. And lastly taxpayers this freedom of choice and ownership of a school, that proudly carries the name of our town, would cost each taxpayer less money than what we spent in the previous years of RSU1 membership. This sure sounds like a win/win situation for the children and tax payers.
Please vote to withdraw from RSU1 on Jan. 13. You can even vote early or vote by absentee ballot. Your votes are needed. To make this a valid election there must be more than 560 ballots cast.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
