AUBURN — Dixon Dilodovico scored two goals as the Edward Little High School boys ice hockey team downed Brunswick, 4-2, in the opening round of the Gipper’s Tournament at Norway Savings Bank Arena on Friday.
The loss was the first for the Dragons, who fell to 3-1 and takes on rival Mt. Ararat/Lisbon on Tuesday at Bowdoin College’s Sidney J. Watson Arena at 6 p.m.
After a scoreless first period, the Red Eddies (3-2) received a goal each from Cody Woodward and Dilodovico 48 seconds apart for a 2-0 lead. Dilodovico scored his second goal 1:10 later for a 3-0 edge for the hosts after two periods.
Down 4-0 in the third, Brunswick made a run, getting a goal each from Matthew Deveaux and Jacob McGowan to cut the deficit to two goals. Jared Parent, TJ Sullivan and Andrew Eno earned an assist each for the Dragons, who tallied both goals on the power play.
Brunswick goaltender CJ Connor had 16 saves, while EL netminder Devin Dumont stopped six shots.
On Saturday, Brunswick secured a consolation 7-3 win over Leavitt.
Down 1-0 in the first period, goals by Sullivan and McGowan gave the Dragons a 2-1 lead. Brunswick poured it on the second, getting three goals from McGowan and a one from Deveaux for a 6-1 lead.
McGowan’s fifth goal 50 seconds into the third made for a 7-1 game.
Parent and Alex Labbe picked up two assists each in the win, while Eno chipped in a helper. Brunswick netminder Devin Allard had 10 saves.
Joe Baumann, Blayne Arsenault and Connor Cyr scored the Hornets.

Ben Bishop scored two goals to lead the Eagles to a win over South Portland/Freeport/Waynflete at Portland Ice Arena on Saturday.
Bishop converted a Tyler Halls rebound into the game’s first goal in the first period. His empty-net marker late in the third completed the win as Mt. Ararat/Lisbon improved to 1-2 and hosts rival Brunswick on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
Parker Lacey had 16 saves in the win, while Red Riots netminder Joe Grant turned aside 26 shots.

Corinne Laberge netted the first two goals as undefeated Lewiston (9-0) downed winless Brunswick (0-8) in Eastern action on Saturday at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee.
Brunswick goaltender Jordan Van Savage turned away 31 shots.
The Dragons take on Mt. Ararat on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
