ENGLEWOOD, FL — Lucienne P. Fontaine, 85, of Englewood, Florida, passed away November 17th due to complications of pneumonia. Lucienne (Lou) was born July 2, 1931 in Lille, Maine to Fred and Odélie (St. Jean) Plourde. In 1943, the family moved to Greene, Maine, where Lou would attend the Lane School and meet her future husband, Ralph Fontaine. Married in November of 1948, Lou and Ralph were inseparable until Ralph’s passing in July of 2013.

A talented seamstress, Lou worked for 20 years at Globe Albany (now TexTech Industries) in Monmouth; during much of this time, she and Ralph, tended the Lane Road family farm once owned by Ralph’s parents. In the late seventies, drawing again upon her expertise as a seamstress, Lou became the head housekeeper at Sebasco Lodge, a job she would keep for nearly 20 years after she and Ralph turned their Small Point cottage into a year-round home.

Lou and Ralph enjoyed many years at Small Point, where friends and relatives were drawn by the good company, meals, and music to gatherings of all sizes – both in and outdoors – at their home overlooking Head Beach. Lou and Ralph also greatly enjoyed traveling, visiting countless destinations from Hawaii to Canada, and everywhere in between. In 1997, they continued their travels, moving from Maine to a new home in Englewood, Florida, where they would enjoy retirement in the sunshine state.

Lou is survived by her daughter, Joan Greenwood- Woeste and husband Frank, of Blacksburg, Virginia and Venice, Florida; daughter Claire Hanson and husband Thomas of Fayette, Maine; grandchildren Sean Greenwood (Becky Fortier) of Sabattus, Maine; Christopher Greenwood of Chattanooga, Tennessee; Melissa Goody of Auburn, Maine; Laura Wolgin and husband Michael of Apex, North Carolina; and Rachel Groenhout and husband Erik of Mount Vernon, Maine; great-grandchildren, James, Joseph, and Lily Grace Greenwood; Mia, Lila, and Milo Wolgin; and Willow and Hazel Groenhout; sisters Carmen Dube and Agathe Poulin: and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her infant daughter, Theresa; sisters Freda Dumont and Martha Madore; and brothers Louis Philip Plourde, who died in infancy, and Simon Plourde.
