WALDOBORO (AP) — A Knox County man police say struck and killed a bicyclist with his SUV in Waldoboro over the weekend is facing drunken driving charges.
Chief William Labombarde says 31-year-old cyclist Jessie Hayden was struck at about 8:30 p.m. Saturday by a vehicle driven by 27-year-old Jeffrey Moran, who lives in the town of Washington.
Police say Moran told investigators that he found the bike in the middle of the road and saw a man lying in a ditch. Hayden was pronounced dead at the scene.
After an investigation, officers determined Moran has struck Hayden and charged him with criminal operating under the influence.
Moran was held in jail over the weekend on $10,000 bail.
