Toby Holt exploded for 35 points, including going 8-for- 8 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter, as the Freeport High School boys basketball team surprised York, 66-55, in a big Western Maine Conference matchup.

The Falcons (8-7) ended a four-game slide that had them on the outside looking in for a postseason spot in the Class B South Heal Point Standings. Freeport climbed into the ninth and final position and will host Lake Region on Friday at 7 p.m. in another key WMC tilt.

Ethan Sclar added 12 points, with Eriksen Shea pitching in nine and Kaleb Barrett seven.

Dawson Hebert drained five 3-pointers to lead the Dragons (11-4) to a Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference win at Newcastle.

Hebert finished with 19 points, while teammate Colby Bucknam added 15 and Noah Cox 14. Kyle Hanson chipped in nine rebounds and six assists.

Keyden Leeman scored a game-high 22 points for Lincoln Academy (1-14). Nathan Simmons picked up 11 points and Nathan Marstens had 10.

Brunswick hosts Biddeford on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

Zach Small led the way with 34 points as the visiting Bobcats rolled to a Mountain Valley Conference victory at Wiscasset.

Richmond (13-3) began pulling away in the second quarter, turning a 12-10 advantage into a 33-17 halftime edge.

Small had seven steals, with Matt Rines pitching in 10 points and three steals, and Calob Densmore eight points.

Ron Drake posted 18 points for Wiscasset (0-16), while Dylan Orr had 11.

The host Eagles rallied in the fourth quarter for a KVAC win over the Windjammers in Topsham.

Mt. Ararat led 28-25 at the half, but Camden Hills rallied in the third for a 40-35 lead.

Jared Balser had 20 points in the win, while Austin Damon scored 15 and Will Kavanaugh nine.

The Eagles host Leavitt on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Girls basketball

BRUNSWICK — Head coach Sam Farrell earned his 100th coaching win in Brunswick’s 63-25 KVAC win over Lincoln Academy.

The Dragons are 15-0 heading into Thursday’s makeup game at Biddeford (5:30 p.m.).

Brunswick started quickly, leading 17-4 after a quarter and 38-8 at the half.

Charlotte MacMillan led on the scoresheet with 18 points and six steals for the Dragons. Sabrina Armstrong added nine points, four steals and four assists, while Mackenzie Burrows and Rian Sachs each pitched in eight points and five boards.

Visiting Mt. Ararat (4-11) earned a KVAC win at Camden Hills behind 21 points from Kyla Greenleaf.

Greenleaf hit three 3- pointers, while Ainsley Bryant was 7-for-7 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter on her way to 17 points. Lauren Sturgess chipped in 11 points, while Theresa Breed hauled in 10 rebounds. The Eagles were 18-of-22 from the charity stripe.

MiAe Dewaad led the Windjammers with 27 points and 12 rebounds, with Lauren Miller adding 14.

Mt. Ararat visits Leavitt on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

The Lakers outscored the Breakers, 29-2 in the second half en route to a Class D South win at Central Maine Community College in Auburn.

Rangeley improved to 13-2, while Pine Tree Academy fell to 3-12. The teams meet again on Wednesday at Freeport (3 p.m.).

Rangeley led 8-4 after a quarter despite missing on all eight of its field goal attempts. Natasha Haley made eight free throws, part of her game-high 19-point effort.

Leading 12-8 in the second quarter, the Lakers closed the half on an 8-0 run for a 20-8 halftime lead. Rangeley tallied the first five points of the second half, then finished the third quarter on a 9-0 spurt for a 34-10 lead.

Adriana DePalma led the Breakers with six points, with Emily Schlisner adding the other four. Agnes Miongo had 11 rebounds, with Regency Sandy adding eight caroms.

The host Wildcats held off the Falcons in WMC action.

York started quickly, gaining an 18-8 lead in the first quarter. Freeport, which fell to 12-3 and visits Lake Region on Friday at 7 p. m., chipped away from there, trailing 33-23 at the half and 42-38 after three.

Nina Howe had 23 points for York, while Julia Babcock picked up eight.

Allie Goodman led Freeport with 12 points, followed by Jessie Driscoll, who had 10.

The visiting Black Bears pulled away in the fourth quarter, earning a KVAC win over Morse at Bath Middle School.

The Shipbuilders fell to 3- 12 after being outscored 33- 25 in the second half.

Gabby Green had 12 points and Anna Drillen 11 for Maranacook, while Sierra Wallace picked up 14 points for Morse. Marissa Parks added 12.

Morse visits Leavitt on Friday at 6:30 p.m.

Boys hockey

HALLOWELL — Mt. Ararat/Lisbon/Morse’s Noah Austin scored all four goals for the Eagles, who made it two straight wins at the Camden National Bank Ice Vault and fourth overall, defeating hosts Cony/Monmouth/Hall- Dale, 4-0 Tuesday night in a Class A North matchup.

Eagles (6-7) goaltender Cade Charron was superb in goal, making 23 saves and earning his second shutout of the season.

Nick Austin had two assists and Jacob Sargent chipped in with one helper.

The Eagles come back home on Saturday night to host crosstown rival Brunswick at 8:15 p.m. at Bowdoin’s Sidney J. Watson Arena.

HALLOWELL — Julia Hinkley scored three goals to power Winslow/Gardiner (10-6-1) to a win over Mt. Ararat/Morse (2-15) at the Ice Vault.

Amber Card, Ema Hawkes and Maddie Young had a goal each for the Eagles.

Lily Schenk turned away 23 shots in the loss.

Mt. Ararat/Morse hosts rival Brunswick in its season finale on Saturday at 6:30 p.m.

Greely/Gray-New Gloucester erupted for four second-period goals en route to a win over Yarmouth/ Freeport (3-13-1) at the Falmouth Family Ice Center.

Sophie McGrath scored off a pass from Paige Caufield in the first period for the Clippers, who host Cape Elizabeth/Waynflete/South Portland on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
