PORTLAND (AP) — A Colorado man has pleaded guilty to sending a picture of himself engaged in sexually explicit behavior with a minor to an undercover federal agent in Maine.
David William Burkman, of Canon City, Colorado, pleaded guilty Monday in U.S. District Court in Portland to sexually exploiting a child and transporting child pornography.
Prosecutors say in March, Burkman took pictures of himself engaged in sexually explicit conduct with a 6- year-old girl. The next month, he sent an email message to the undercover account of a Homeland Security Investigations agent in Maine that included one of the photos.
The 30-year-old Burkman faces up to 50 years in prison.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
