BATH — The Lincoln Academy jayvee football team edged out the Hyde Phoenix in a recent matchup, 28-20. The Eagles controlled the scoreboard through the first quarter and quickly into the second quarter to take a commanding 20-0 lead.

Hyde redeemed themselves in the second half after members of the offensive and defensive lines such as Dan Morgenstern, Ryan Moran, Andrew Sterling, Jason Tang and Connor Cole gained traction and closed the gap on any up-the-middle plays.

With 7:10 left to play in the third quarter, Andrew Palermo ran 65 yards for the first Phoenix touchdown. Just 17 seconds later, Moran forced a fumble on the Eagles special teams unit and Connor Foye picked up the loose ball and ran it in for Hyde’s second TD.

The Phoenix tied the game at 20 when they forced a bad punt that was recovered on the Eagles 2-yard line. With six seconds to go in the third, Palermo pushed through the middle and into the end-zone.

Midway through the fourth quarter, Lincoln regained momentum with a 23-yard TD pass and a twopoint conversion to take the lead by eight. The Eagles defense forced the Phoenix to three-and-out and held possession for the remainder of the game for the victory.
