LEWISTON (AP) — New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is headlining a fundraiser in Maine for Republican Gov. Paul LePage next week.
LePage Political Adviser Brent Littlefield said Tuesday that Christie will attend a lunchtime fundraiser for the governor in Lewiston on Oct. 14.
Christie, the chairman of the Republican Governors Association, has already made two trips to Maine to support LePage in his tough re-election fight.
The group has spent more than $2 million in the state and released several television ads applauding LePage and attacking Democrat Mike Michaud.
Polls show LePage and Michaud in a tight race, with independent Eliot Cutler in a distant third.
Littlefield said former Sen. Olympia Snowe and her husband, former Gov. John McKernan, are among others lending their name to next week’s fundraiser as hosts.
