Allan Benjamin Corderman, age 87, was born in Washington, D.C. on March 25, 1929 and died in Brunswick, Maine on September 20, 2016 surrounded by family. He valiantly fought many health challenges in later years, having survived 74 surgeries and four cancers before succumbing to complications of lymphoma. For the last several years, he was a resident of the Maine Lodge at the Highlands Retirement Community in Topsham, Maine.

He grew up in the Washington, D.C. area, was a member of the US Naval Academy class of 1951, and received an MBA from Harvard Business School in 1961. He was very active in alumni associations at both schools and served as the Vice President of the Boston, Massachusetts US Naval Academy Alumni Association. He was very pleased to have attended his 55th Harvard Business School Reunion in June of this year.

Allan held marketing and management jobs in the electronics and publishing industries for 40 years. During the Vietnam War, he served on Robert McNamara’s staff at the Department of Defense as one of his “whiz kids”. He held management positions at RCA and was the Founder, President and CEO of Media Systems Corporation and Wintergreen Orchard House publishers.

Civic activities were always very important to Allan. He was a member of the School Board and a Boy Scout Master in Moorestown, New Jersey. While living in Concord, Massachusetts, he was Chairman of the Planning Board, President of the Rotary Club, and President of the Chamber of Commerce. He was a Lay Eucharistic Minister of the Episcopal Church and served on the Vestry at several churches. He was on the Board of Directors of Hood College. While living in Maine, he was a volunteer at the Maine Maritime Museum and served as the Chairman of the Executive Board of the Highlands Resident Association.

He learned to fly amphibians in the Navy and had a lifelong love of flying. He also enjoyed hiking, Ham Radio, beekeeping, and spending time with his family.

Allan is survived by three daughters and sons-laws; Susan and Thomas Weddle of Brunswick, Maine; Cynthia and Alan Wildberger of Woodsboro, Maryland; and Mary Ann and Tony Powell of Wellesley, Massachusetts. He was extremely proud of his three granddaughters living in Massachusetts; Rebecca Weddle of Watertown, Hannah Weddle of Watertown, and Emily Weddle of Somerville. His brothers Sidney and wife Sarah Jo Corderman of Scottsdale, Arizona and Warren Corderman of Williamsburg, Virginia also survive him; his brother Roy Corderman preceded him in death.

A funeral service will be held at Brackett Funeral Home, Federal Street, Brunswick at 2pm on Saturday, October 1, 2016. Visiting hours will take place prior to the service from 1-2pm. A reception will be held at the Highlands Maine Lodge, 100 Governor’s Way, Topsham immediately following the funeral service.
