TOPSHAM
Topsham police arrested a man for theft who allegedly stole a truck from a dealership in Augusta.
Sgt. Mark Gilliam said Joel Schweitzer, 34, who has a Texas drivers license, was charged Tuesday with theft (Class B) and with unauthorized use of property (Class D). He was taken to Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick for evaluation and later transported to Two Bridges Regional Jail.
Gilliam said the stolen truck was a gray, full-sized Toyota with no registration plates, from Charlies Toyota in Augusta.
Earlier on Tuesday, Sagadahoc County Sheriff s Department received a call at 5:49 p.m. that the pickup truck had gone off the road in Bowdoin and drove away. Lt. Calvin Temple said police believed it would be heading down Route 201 into Topsham. Topsham police instead got a complaint of a vehicle on Pleasant Point Road, where Gilliam said Schweitzer was located. Temple said the sheriff s department issued Schweitzer a summons for leaving the scene of a property damage accident.
