PHIPPSBURG

Two Georgetown residents had to wait several hours Wednesday for the tide to come back in, after they went to explore Pond Island and their boat became grounded.

Authorities did not have the names of the two men, one of whom was in his 70s and the other in his 60s, according to dispatches. Harbor master Douglas Alexander said that the men were able to get their boat back into the water at around 7 p.m. and head back to shore.

Dispatches indicated that the two men were stranded on Pond Island at around 2:30 p.m.

Neither man was hurt, Alexander said. The Marine Patrol was put on alert, but a rescue was not necessary, he said. Neither man had a cellphone with him, Alexander said.

“They went onto the island and then the tide went out,” Alexander said. “A young man went out on a kayak and gave them some bug spray and water.”
