SOUTH PORTLAND (AP) — Maine’s expanded season for hunting deer with bows and arrows is underway.
The state’s expanded archery season started Saturday and runs through Dec. 13. The state uses the expanded season to allow deer hunting in areas with significant deer populations and laws banning the discharging of firearms. Most of the hunting zones are in residential areas with wooded lots.
The expanded archery season takes place in 11 designated areas around southern and central Maine. They include areas in and around South Portland, Bangor, Augusta, Camden, Waterville, Lewiston and other cities. State officials warn that local ordinances prevent hunting in some areas.
