
Bath, battling out of the loser’s bracket, was led by Nicco Bartone, who went 3-for- 4 with three singles and made or assisted on seven outs, two of the standout variety.
Bonny Eagle scored one run in the top of the first and Bath responded by plating four in the first frame on singles by Bartone, Isaak Flaming, Jackson Walker and Kaleb Jackson, coupled with a hit batsman and two walks.
Neither team scored in the second and Bonny Eagle scored two in the third, cutting the Bath lead to 4-3 on singles by Cam Phinney, Cory Lebreque and Aiden Thomas.
Phinney pitched two consecutive shutout innings and Bonny Eagle scored two in the top of the fifth to take the lead, 5-4.
In the bottom half of the inning, Sam Sinibaldi doubled and Brogan Shaw singled around a walk and hit batsman, followed by Bartone’s third hit to give Bath the lead.
Bonny Eagle the bases loaded with two out in the sixth and a pitching change was made, with Flaming coming in to face Thomas. Flaming stuck out Thomas on three straight strikes to secure the victory for Bath.
For the season, Bath 10U finished second in District 4 Cal Ripken Tournament, third in the State Cal Ripken Tournament and first in the Kyle Fitzherbert Tournament.
Bath 10, Ararat, 8
In opening day action of the Fitzherbert Tournament, Bath nipped Ararat 10-8 last Thursday. This was the fourth postseason meeting between the two teams.
For Bath, the offense was lead by Flaming, who went 3- for-4 with two singles and a double, Joey Cholish two singles, Walker a double, and Logan Pelletier, Bartone and Karl Shumaker a single each.
Thomas Warren pitched four solid innings allowing only a run and two singles, while striking out five.
For Ararat, Caleb Manuel led the offense with a triple and a single, while Nathan Taylor and Eli Ouellette each had two singles, and Kyle Tilton, Max Spelke and Aiden Treutel a single each.
Bonny Eagle 13, Bath 7
In second-round action on Saturday, Bonny Eagle of Standish banged out 13 hits and took advantage of timely errors to beat the host team.
For Bath, Flaming and Warren were both 3-for-4 with three singles, while Bartone and Jackson added two singles each, and Cholish and Sinibaldi each a single. Bath left 13 runners on base
Bath 11, Ararat 10
In loser’s bracket play on Saturday, Bath edged Ararat in a back-and-forth game to advance, while the loss concluded Ararat’s season.
Both teams scored two runs in the first, while neither scored in the second. To start the third, Warren and Walker both singled and Jackson drew a walk, bringing Cholish to the plate with the bases loaded and no outs. With a 1-2 count, Cholish hit a long home run, his first ever, deep over the leftfield fence for a grand slam.
Sinibaldi doubled to left and scored as Bath took a five-run lead. Bath added another run in the top of the fourth as Walker singled, stole two bases, and scored on a single by Cholish.
Ararat did not go quietly into the night and erupted for seven runs in the bottom of the fourth to take its first lead of the game.
For Ararat, Nathan Taylor, Hunter Lohr, Kyle Tilton, Max Spelke and Ben Laurence each banged out singles to go along with two walks.
Bath didn’t score in the fifth while Ararat added one more run on singles from Treutel and Manuel setting up a dramatic sixth inning.
Flaming, Warren and Walker each singled to start the inning and each scored on stolen bases and sacrifice flies from Cholish and Sinibaldi to take the lead.
In the bottom of the sixth, Cam Dunton lead off with a single and stole second. Tilton flied out to rightfielder Cholish, who quickly threw to second to turn a double play.
Spelke ripped a line shot down the first base side, but was denied a hit on a standout catch by Flaming to end the game.
The Bath offense was powered by Walker, who went 4- for-4 with four singles, Cholish 3-for-3 with two singles and a grand slam home run, Warren 3-for-4 with three singles, Bartone and Flaming 2- for-4 with two singles each and Sinibaldi a double.
For Ararat, Manuel was 3- for-4 with three singles and Taylor, Dunton, Ouellette and Tilton each added two singles. Laurence rounded it out with a single.
Bath 22, Lisbon 11
In a rain-delayed elimination game Sunday, Bath led 13-10 in the bottom of the fourth with no outs and Lisbon with runners on first and second. The game was postponed to Monday.
On Monday, Bath came out strong behind a stellar pitching performance from Flaming to advance to the championship game against Bonny Eagle.
Bath scored in each inning except the fifth and pounded out 29 hits. For Bath, every player had at least one hit with Flaming leading the way, going 5-for-6 with five singles. Bartone was 4-for-6 with three singles and a double, Jackson 4-for-6 with four singles, Warren 3-for-4 with three singles, Sinibaldi 3-for-5 with two doubles and a single, Brogan Shaw a double and two singles, Logan Pelletier a double and single, Cholish and Jack Leonard two singles each, and Shumaker a single.
Bath 6, Bonny Eagle 2
Also on Monday, the pitching duo of Walker and Warren held Bonny Eagle to just one single and combined for 15 strikeouts to help pace Bath.
Warren struck out five and allowed two runs in two innings of work and Walker dominated the final four frames, striking out the side in the third, fifth and sixth innings, for a total of 10.
Pelletier led the offense with his first-ever home run and a single, while Flaming had two singles, and Warren, Walker, Bartone, Cholish and Sinibaldi a single each.
