BATH — Roger Buzzell Jackins, 84, of Bath passed away on Wednesday, July 25, 2012 after a courageous battle.

He was born in Houlton on October 1, 1927 the son of James F and Doris Buzzell Jackins. He was a graduate of Houlton High School, class of 1946. Roger was employed as a cook in Boothbay after graduation until 1951, when he joined the United States Air Force and proudly served his country for 4 years.

In 1950, Roger married his first wife, Jean Lambert. He was employed at New England Tel. & Tel. Company as a lineman, where he worked for 33 years retiring in 1989. On August 8, 1992, he married Marcia Warner and the couple resided in Bath to live out their retirement together, along with their companion “Amber”. Roger loved to cook and working out doors, camping with Marcia was something that he always looked forward to doing. In his spare time, he loved to tend to his garden or splitting wood for the winter.

Roger was a member of the Corliss Street Baptist Church in Bath, where he was a deacon for many years. He enjoyed cooking for the Bean Suppers the church had. He also volunteered for the Bath Area Food Bank and cooked at the Bath Soup Kitchen.

Roger is predeceased by a brother James W. Jackins and a sister Jeanne L Jackins. He leaves behind his wife Marcia of 19 years, 2 sons, Jeffrey Jackins of Lincolnville and Brian Jackins and his wife Ruth of Elverson, PA; a daughter, Karen Jackins of Portland; a sister Diana Jackins of Watertown; 2 step-sons Dale Davies and his wife Susan of Sandwich, MA & Gary Davies of Welfleet, MA; and a stepdaughter, Debra J.D. Lewis and her husband Dwight of Boothbay; eight grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, July 31, from 4-6 p.m. at the David E. Desmond & Son Funeral Home, 638 High Street, Bath. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Corliss Street Baptist Church, Bath.
