Born in Brunswick, Maine, January 27, 1948, he was the son of Lillian (Miller) and the late Flavian “Babe” Nadeau. He attended elementary school in Brunswick and later moved to Lewiston, where he also attended school. Throughout his childhood and into his teens, he was an active Boy Scout, and took part in a multitude of community services, ultimately achieving the rank of Eagle Scout.
An avid musician, Larry began playing the bass in his late teens. He was a member of the band, The Innkeepers, with whom he traveled throughout the northeastern United States and Canada.
He made countless friends, and had many adventures throughout his musical career, later playing for several years in various Maine venues with the band Seventh Heaven.
In addition, he held a variety of interesting positions, one of which was as a bodyguard for Kevin Costner during the filming of the movie, “Message in a Bottle.” Larry truly enjoyed that “job” and was happy to share his wonderful stories of that summer.
His pride in life was his son, Ethan. Larry was quick to share stories of Ethan’s accomplishments, from an award achieved as a young boy, or an honor given while serving in the US Coast Guard, being Ethan’s dad was one of Larry’s greatest delights.
Larry loved motorcycling; with it came the camaraderie of many friends and fellow riders whose lives he touched in a variety of ways. When not on his motorcycle, he enjoyed riding in his Jeep, accompanied by his dog, Skittles, who brought much happiness to his life.
He was passionate about his family, and, while exploring his genealogy, he was delighted to discover his Micmac heritage, which further led to brothers, sisters, and experiences that infinitely touched his own life.
He was a member of a number of civic organizations, including Masonry and Knights of Columbus.
Larry was a very kind soul; he had a loving and generous heart, and was always reaching out to others. He will be forever in the hearts of and missed by so many.
He is survived by his son Ethan Caswell of California; his parents, Lillian and Dudley Ervin of Florida; his stepsister Mrs. Stanley (Linda) Seiler of California; his dear friend, Jocelyn; nieces and numerous cousins who loved him dearly. He was predeceased by his father, Flavian Nadeau, and in 2006, his wife of 26 years, Linda Caswell.
Funeral services will be held from 6-7:30 p.m., Wednesday, August 1 at Demers- Desmond Funeral Home, 34 Cushing Street in Brunswick. A motorcycle procession to St. John’s Cemetery in Brunswick will follow the service.
The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to the staff at Bodwell Rehabilitation in Brunswick for their compassionate and caring interventions and support.
