No one was seriously injured when a van crashed into a store window at 49 Front St. in Bath while trying to parallel park Saturdat.
The crash at Now You’re Cooking was reported at 1:22 p.m.
Bath Police Cpl. Michelle Small said George Bozarth, 69, of Bath, was driving a Dodge Caravan when, due to human error, he apparently stepped on the gas and quickly accelerated while attempting to park.
The vehicle struck a city light pole causing minor damage, jumped the curb, and drove over the sidewalk before the rear of the van came over the brick siding of the store front, smashing the window display.
The impact caused damage inside the store as well as to the structure, Small said. The van sustained about $2,000 in damage.
No one inside the store was injured, but a woman walking on the sidewalk was narrowly missed by the van and sustained an abrasion to her ankle.
Although downtown Bath was crowded during Saturday’s Random Acts of Kindness Day event, there were no other injuries.
Small said no one was seriously hurt and no one in the store was injured.
The sidewalk near the crash scene was cordoned off and the Atlantic Coast Towing extracted the van, Small said. Now You’re Cooking and Small said repairs were expected to cost several thousands of dollars.
The Now You’re Cooking Facebook page announced Sunday the business was open again.
No charges were filed in the incident.
