On Friday beginning at 7 p.m., the Freeport Community Library will host concert by plucked-string specialist Timothy Burris.
Burris has performed widely in Europe and the U.S., including appearances with world-renowned early music vocalists Derek Lee Ragin and Jennifer Lane. The most recent of his nine recordings includes his own transcription of J.S. Bach’s “Ciaccona” for solo violin.
A lute instructor at the Royal Flemish Conservatory of Music in Antwerp from 1990-96, Burris is currently on the faculty of both the Portland Conservatory and Colby College, where he directed the early music Collegium during the 2015-16 academic year.
In addition to solo concerts, Burris performs regularly with three ensembles: Music’s Quill, Ensalada and St. Mary Schola. Burris holds a soloist diploma from the Royal Conservatory of The Hague and a PhD from Duke University.
The concert will include an early suite by the Dresden court lutenist Silvius Leopold Weiss, as well as guitars works by Fernando Sor and Mauro Giuliani. Burris will be performing with a baroque lute and guitar made by Richard Berg.
While the concert is offered free of charge, Burris will have recordings on CD available for purchase. For more information, go to freeportlibrary.com or call (207) 865-3307.
