Five military families are participating this week in a camp created by a wounded soldier who wants to help other veterans, especially those who’ve suffered debilitating injuries.
The Veterans Family Camp is the brainchild of retired Army Staff Sgt. Travis Mills, who lost all four limbs when an improvised explosive device detonated under him in Afghanistan.
The Michigan native is now making his life in Maine with wife Kelsey and daughter Chloe.
His idea is to have a place for veterans and their families to relax at a camp setting.
Events include golf, tennis, Frisbee, volleyball, and boating. This is the second year that the camp has been held. By next year, he hopes to have purchased a camp so it can run all summer long.
