Jean Guy was born on September 19, 1933 in Biddeford. He grew up in Topsham with his adoptive parents Irenee and Theresa Levesque. On September 6, 1954 he married Joyce Gilpatrick of Richmond.
He served in the Navy during the Korean War from 1952-1954. Jean Guy attended Brunswick High School, Portland Junior College and the University of Maine in Orono. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education and a Master’s Degree in Guidance. He was a high school counselor for 26 years: Potter Academy in Sebago, Camden High School, Freeport High School and Brunswick High School. During his 17 years at Brunswick High School he also taught Driver’s Education and coached girl’s softball. After his retirement in 1985 he worked as an athletic equipment manager at Bowdoin College and a courier for Parkview Hospital. He was also a high school and college basketball referee for over 25 years.
Jean Guy was an avid golfer and a member of the Brunswick Golf Club for over 40 years. He was a familiar sight at the course at noon time waiting for “gangbusters”. Some of his proudest moments were winning a Calcutta tournament for his team with a 60 foot put in the last hole (which has grown to over 80 feet in the retelling) and winning the 1986 Member Guest Tournament with his son Mark.
Jean Guy is survived by his wife of 57 years Joyce, his son Mark and wife Debby of Naperville, IL, his son Gregg and wife Eileen of Loveland, OH, four grandchildren – Christopher, Alicia, Anna and Nathaniel, one greatgrandson, Joshua, and a sister, Collette Norris of Elkhorn, KY.
He was predeceased by his sister Francis Dow.
The family wishes to thank all the staff on 3 West at d’Youville and Beacon Hospice for the love and compassion they showed Jean and his family during the last very difficult nine months.
Visiting hours will be held Sunday, July 8 from 4-7 p.m. at Stetson’s Funeral Home 12 Federal St. Brunswick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, July 9 at 10 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Church- All Saints Parish, 132 McKeen St. Brunswick with a reception to immediately follow in the parish hall. Interment services will follow at 2 p.m. at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel, Mt. Vernon Road Augusta, Maine.
