PORTLAND
David Roseboom struck out Yoan Moncada for the final out and the Binghamton Mets (47-52) defeated the Sea Dogs (36-64), 2-1 in the series finale on Sunday afternoon at Hadlock Field to win the series three games to one.
The Sea Dogs scored the game’s first run in the second inning on a bases loaded sacrifice fly by Rainel Rosario to score Nate Freiman, but failed to muster any offense beyond that. Portland stranded nine runners in the game and finished 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position.
Mets starter Tyler Herron (2-1) allowed one run over six innings while walking one and striking out five.
The Mets took the lead with two runs on four hits off of Mitch Atkins (2-5) in the fifth inning. LJ Mazzilli tied the game with a solo homer over the Maine Monster, then three batters later Phillip Evans grounded a two-out, RBI singled to left.
Atkins worked a quality start, allowing two runs on eight hits in six innings, walking two and striking out five.
Kevin McGowan worked two scoreless innings of relief for Binghamton and Roseboom closed out the game with a scoreless ninth.
Mauricio Dubon went 4- for-4 with two doubles for Portland, his first career four-hit game in Double-A.
The Sea Dogs begin a three-game series tonight with the Trenton Thunder at Hadlock Field, with first pitch slated for 7 p.m.
