BAILEY ISLAND — Granville F. Johnson, age 90, of Spruce Ledge Road, died Thursday, July 17, 2014, at Winship Green in Bath. He was born on Bailey Island on Feb. 9, 1924, and is son of the late Harvey and Lizzie (Gregory) Johnson.

Granville was a WWII Navy veteran serving in the European and Pacific Theaters.

On Aug. 24, 1948, he married Joan P. Tenneson. After retiring from U.S. Gypsum in 1986 he worked as a volunteer at Parkview Hospital with his wife until she retired in 1994.

He was predeceased by brothers Albert and George Johnson of Bailey Island and sister Jeannette Soper of Olympia, Wash.

He is survived by Joan, his wife of 66 years; sons, Lawrence Johnson of Kent, Ohio, Wayne Johnson and his wife Diane of Lewiston; and daughters, Lori Stevens and her husband Herb of Bowdoin, Wendy Gerrish and her husband Bert of Bailey Island; and his sister, Barbara Ashley of Olympia, Wash., along with 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was a member of the American Legion and enjoyed hunting, fishing and cooking on the grill. He was well known for his homemade biscuits and loved strawberry rhubarb pie.

Funeral services will be held at Gracelawn Memorial Park in Auburn on Wednesday, July 23, 2014, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to CHANS Home Health Care, 60 Baribeau Drive, Brunswick, ME 04011.
